League of Legends Esports has revealed the League of Legends Game Changers (LGC) for the EMEA region, an official league for those who identify as women, and LGC Rising will be the first tournament in the LGC.
LGC Rising is the first step in building up the Game Changers Rising community and legacy. It will be a compact format, mostly online format to start with. This is mostly to make sure that the LGC can have a strong (and sustainable) start to rise.
However, the Grand Final for the League of Legends Game Changers Rising will be held live on stage at Paris Games Week with other League of Legends events. Paris Games Week is one of the biggest gaming events in Europe, which makes this first Grand Final an exciting start.
The beginning will be a Group Stage that will have two splits of eight teams, and teams will compete in a best-of-one, single round robin format. The top three teams will go to the Playoffs, where they’ll compete in a best-of-five double-elimination format.
The exact dates are still being finalized, though a tentative schedule has been released:
- Group Stage: September 13-14, 20-21, 27-29
- Playoffs: October 10-12, 14-15
- Grand Final: October 30
In August, an Open Qualifier will be held to determine two of the teams competing at LGC Rising. This will take place in August.
The other six teams have different pathways to the LGC Rising. Three of them will be from rosters that are already active in the same community in EMEA (with preference to those that are already affiliated with LEC organizations). The other three will come from the Equal Esports Cup held in Germany, based on the previous performance of each team.
This isn’t the first Game Changers league Riot Games has had, though it’s the first of its name in League of Legends. Game Changers is a part of Valorant esports as well.
