Firstly, we learn that the developers have managed to implement flooded rice fields, which are an iconic sight in Korea. Their distribution depends on the area of the map. Some places have more, some have fewer.

Their presence is also seasonal. The fields are flooded in spring and summer, while in the fall they’re drained for the harvest. In the winter, they stay dry.

The map is also being fleshed out in other ways with the addition of cars and boats. We’ll see vehicles unloading bombs, refueling trucks, jeeps, and various fishing boats near coastal villages, piers, and ports.

Cities and landmarks are being improved, including Mount Paldal near Suwon and the area around the Chosin Reservoir.

The developers are also adding training ranges for both sides, where pilots will be able to improve their targeting against a variety of targets.

Variation is being increased in river banks, while performance is being optimized, and the issue with trees shifting up and down has been fixed.

You can see a few screenshots below.

If you’re unfamiliar with the IL-2 series, it’s a combat flight simulation series that debuted all the way back in 2001 with IL-2 Sturmovik, set on the Eastern Front of World War II.

At that time, it was very innovative among combat flight simulators and provided a lot of interesting features in a genre that was already starting to drop out of the AAA field into a much smaller niche. It also included a rather advanced multiplayer suite for the time.
