1C Game Studios showcased one of the features coming in the upcoming combat flight simulator Korea: IL-2 Series.
According to the announcement, the sim will have functional infantry, which has never been implemented before in an IL-2 game.
This will include rifle, assault, and light machine gun squads. All soldiers will fire at targets, move, and can be killed independently. They will also accompany tank attacks.
On top of that, there will be squads with light and heavy mortars, and you can see them in action and in screenshots below.

Incidentally, last month we also saw working and animated artillery, as you can see below. All guns will have firing and towed configurations.
You can see a video below showing a 122 mm M30 howitzer in action, including its animations. According to the developers, these innovations will provide “a whole layer of new, full-fledged, rather than decorative ground targets — this will make the gameplay even more variable.”
The IL-2 series is a very old combat flight simulation series that debuted all the way back in 2001 with IL-2 Sturmovik, set on the Eastern Front for World War II. Funnily, it was one of the first combat flight simulators I remember showing animated soldiers running into the ditch on the side of the roads when you strafed a line of trucks.
Over the years, it has expanded to other fronts and periods, including World War I. Recently, it even received a tank simulator. The next setting is the Korean War and we’re still waiting to hear when it’ll come out for PC.
