Today, Koei Tecmo announced its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025, related to the period between April and June.

According to the documents provided by the publisher, sales for the whole company were 14.8 billion yen (down 15.9% year-on-year), while operating income was 3.574 billion yen (down 37.6% year-on-year).

If we look specifically at the Entertainment Business, which is how KT defines its gaming business, sales were 13.583 billion yen (approximately 3 billion yen less than in the previous fiscal year) and operating income was 3.706 billion yen, approximately 2 billion yen less compared to the previous fiscal year.

This was mostly explained with a decline in sales for mobile games.

That being said, Koei Tecmo expects sales for the whole fiscal year ending in March 2026 to actually grow 10.6% year-on-year to 92 billion yen, while operating income is expected to drop slightly (-3.5% year-on-year) to 31 billion yen.

This is due to the fact that most new releases are focused on the second half of the fiscal year, including games that have not yet been announced.

The major titles we already know about are Ninja Gaiden 4, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Inprisonment, and Nioh 3, albeit Nioh 3 is not confirmed for this fiscal year just yet, as its release window is penciled for “early 2026.”

The profit for the first quarter was actually higher than the company expected, despite the drop. There were no major new releases during the quarter.

Now the company has entered its 4th medium-term management plan, which will focus on the aim to “grow both the quality and quantity of the [game development] pipeline while placing importance on portfolio balance.”

For consoles and PC games, Koei Tecmo sees room for growth mainly in North America, Europe, and China. To achieve that, it intends to “strengthen the system for the success of large-scale titles in the global market.”

Koei Tecmo was the second major game publisher to reveal its financials this quarter, following Ubisoft. You can expect more over the next two weeks.

If you want to compare the results with historical data, you can check out the announcement for the previous quarter, shared in April, alongside a summary of the medium-term management plan.
