Democracy is saved once again as developer Arrowhead Game Studios revealed that the latest patch for their hit third-person shooter Helldivers 2 would be getting a massive facelift. According to the blog post that announced the information in Patch 1.001.100, the following are getting complete overhauls:

  • Major Overhaul of Anti-Tank, Armor Penetration, Health and Armor Values
  • Weapon & Stratagem Balancing
  • Enemy Reworks
  • Helldiver Health and Damage Mechanics Tweaks
  • Gas Gameplay Mechanic Rework
  • New Galactic War feature
  • Emote Wheel feature
  • Crash & Bug Fixes

The post goes more in-depth regarding all of the changes coming, but the vast majority of the changes will be to make the enemies feel more fair. For example, to combat the overwhelming presence of Bile Titans and Chargers, armor penetration, anti-tank weapons, enemy armor, and health values have been completely reworked. Guns like the Autocannon, Heavy Machine Gun, Flamethrower, and Anti-Materiel Rifle are also much more effective against heavily armored enemies.

Helldivers 2 was released back in February 2024 and has been a resounding success. In addition to plenty of rave reviews from both critics and fans, it became the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, with over 12 million sold in 12 weeks of its release, and is also Sony’s most successful Windows title.

In the last few months, fans began to note that the game started to feel a bit unbalanced. As a result, Arrowhead Games Studios dropped the Escalation of Freedom update on August 6, 2024 to help smooth over some of the issues. Patch 1.001.100 is the result of testing out those changes, as the studio has not fined tune the changes after even more feedback.
