Today, Arrowhead Game Studios released the Heart of Democracy update for Helldivers 2, setting players on the path of defending democracy from the Illuminate invasion.
Players will take to the streets as they experience new operations in city biomes on Super Earth. Players will use Planetary Defense Cannons under the streets of Super Earth to fight off the Illuminate. They’ll also meet SEAF troops who can be directed to fight enemies or follow around players as a form of backup.
At the same time, players will need to focus on protecting the citizens of Super Earth. They’ll be in the streets as well, trying to find shelter and safety. Players will need to protect them or face punishment for any civilians who don’t survive the invasion.
In the Galactic Emergency update last week, players were introduced to a new weapon customization system and bigger surplus operations. These were meant to prepare players to face off against the invasion of Super Earth.
These back-to-back major updates tie together, and Helldivers 2 players can see what to expect in the trailer for Heart of Democracy below:

Along with the Heart of Democracy update, there was also Helldivers Patch 02.003.002 that was released today. This included a variety of bugs and fixes, including the following:
- Players can now purchase the Master of Ceremony item on PlayStation 5 without the game switching pages
- No more crashes when players try to customize certain weapons or when killing nearly-spawned Illuminates
- Drones now return to backpacks as they were meant to
- Stingray strafing attack sounds won’t get perma-played
- Corpses will no longer send players flying (literally)
