Yesterday’s trailer of GTA6 (Grand Theft Auto VI) released by Rockstar Games certainly has impressed many, but how much of it was gameplay, and how much was smoke and mirrors?

According to a claim made on X (formerly Twitter) by Rockstar itself, there is no smoke and no mirrors, and what you see is what you’ll get.

The developer mentioned that the trailer we saw yesterday was captured entirely in the game (not in-engine, as it’s often done for early trailer) on a PS5 console. We also hear that only half of it was cutscenes, while the other half was actual gameplay.

Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.

The trailer certainly looked impressive, revealing a variety of situations and environments of Vice City depicted with a great level of detail. It’s also interesting that the developer picked a PS5 to record the gameplay, and not a more powerful PS5 Pro.

It’s worth reminding that GTA6 has recently been delayed to May 26, 2026, and has been announced only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. At the moment, a PC version has not been mentioned, which is consistent with previous iterations of the franchise.

The game is expected to sell extremely well, considering that its predecessor, GTA5, has shipped a mindboggling 210 million copies as of December 2024. The number is likely higher now, and we’ll get an update next week when Take-Two will host its quarterly financial conference call.

Of course, you can expect further news here on Simulation Daily as soon as they are shared.
