GTA6 Delayed Until May 2026

Today, Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA6) would be delayed, though they did give a release date for May 26, 2026.

According to a post on X, the developers need more time to make GTA 6 the experience that players are expecting. It’s been twelve years since Grand Theft Auto 5 was released — because of this, player expectations have been increasing as more and more time goes by. And considering Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 210 million copies, there are a lot of players that Rockstar is trying to please.

Rockstar fully acknowledges this, and it pointed out that the hype has been “humbling,” to say the least.

While there was no solid release date, Rockstar had already announced that GTA6 would be released in 2025. This was further narrowed to Fall 2025, but the newest announcement confirms that no amount of crunching was going to hit that date.

On the somewhat bright side, Grand Theft Auto 5 is still getting love from Rockstar. The game is still getting updates, such as the free next-gen update for PC players last March. And, of course, GTA Online has a thriving role-playing community.

While announcing that GTA6 would be delayed, Rockstar did thank fans and apologize for the unfortunate news. However, more news and (hopefully) some screenshots or teaser trailers for the game will come soon.

In the meantime, while players wait for another year for GTA6 after it’s been delayed, check out The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which just got a Year One roadmap.
