Global Farmer has gotten Update 2, which adds new buildings and crops, along with several UI changes, and a trailer was released showing off the new bells and whistles.
To kick things off, a new construction menu was added when players are in map view. This lets players add buildings near fields to get a productivity boost. An effect radius shows what fields these buildings will affect. The distance between the field and the building will also affect how strong the effect is.
Several new buildings were added, including the following:
- Compost Facility: raises soil quality and produces larger harvests
- Herbicide Storage: makes anti-weed spraying cheaper
- Machinery Shed: lowers the cost of operating machines
- Packing House: packs crops so that they sell better
- Water Tower: lowers the cost of irrigation
- Wind Pump: improves field water access and produces slightly larger harvests
Those aren’t all the buildings coming, and the image shows off a Reservoir and Egg Packing Plant, too.
New crops were also added, including peas, soy, and sugar beet. Peas and soy are both legumes that actively restore nitrogen to soil. This is important for rotating crop fields. Sugar beet has a long growth duration, but it produces high yields. A sugar plant is also part of the update to help boost profits from the beet. Of course, new harvesters for these plants were added for maximum efficiency.
New and improved UI will help players see field levels and effects from nearby buildings.
Because of the new changes, developers rebalanced Global Farmer quite a bit. There are price reductions/boosts, and reworked contract structures to specifically help them. Plus, at Tier 3, players will need to use machinery in order to get high enough yields to complete contracts.
Weather updates cause more fluctuation to things like high temperatures and sunshine levels. This helps each year stand out a bit more, with the weather progressing as players learn the game better.
Additionally, a few field editing tools were added, including splitting and advanced options. There’s also a new snapping function when creating fields.
A few minor changes were also made:
- Weed pressure is displayed, which will pop up when players plant the same crop type in a field over and over again.
- Operation costs are more clear for plantings.
- Harvests will be lost when plantings lose all health.
Global Farmer did caution players about saves not working with Update 2. The game, which is in Early Access right now, will soon have a Steam beta branch for previous versions where past saves should work.
