It’s easy to dismiss Game of Thrones: Kingsroad as a free-to-play game on PC and Mobile, but a good character creation is a really great start for an RPG.
The release of the demo on Steam allows us to get a good glimpse at the game, starting with the character customization itself. Free-to-play or not, if we have to explore an open-world version of Westeros, we definitely should be able to do so with a character that can match our fantasy of the world created by George R.R. Martin, on top of the TV shows.
The fact that the game is created by Netmarble, which is a prominent Korean company, is pretty evident, as the character customization suite is similar to what you can see on a top-end Korean MMORPG.
Players of Black Desert Online and similar modern MMOs will feel right at home, with plenty of sliders available to control pretty much every angle of the face of our hero.
Perhaps some more hairstyles would be welcome, but given the free nature of the game, I would not be surprised if plenty more were added as the game progresses.
Below you can check out a video showing the creation of two characters, providing you with plenty of insight on what the tool can do.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad was initially announced only for iOS and Android, but after a few weeks, Warner Bros. perhaps realized that it fell really short of the game’s potential and announced a PC version as well.
If you want to try the demo yourself, you can download it from Steam, but keep in mind that it’s available only for a limited time.
The game is as official as it comes and it’ll feature many known characters from the TV series, including their actors’ likenesses.
If you want to see more, you can check out another trailer showing monsters, including Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon Drogon.
