The media outlet and magazine’s parent company GameStop has closed it suddenly, with an announcement posted on Game Informer’s social media informing readers that the publication will close.

As you can see below, no real information or explanations were provided. At the moment of this writing, no announcement has been made on Game Informer’s actual website.

The Final Level: Farewell from Game Informer

After 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer.

From the early days of pixelated adventures to today’s immersive virtual realms, we’ve been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers. While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we’ve cultivated together will continue to live on.

Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end.

Alex Van Aken, who leads the outlet’s video platform mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that the whole staff has been laid off. Kyle Hilliard, Content Director of the magazine, echoed the same details, also mentioning that the next issue was 70% complete.

This comes after 33 years of activity for Game Informer, which was founded in 1991 and was one of the last few gaming magazines to remain in print.

The publication was acquired in 2000 by GameStop alongside its previous parent company FuncoLand. Since then, the magazine has been a common sight on the shelves of the massive retailer.

The latest issue of the magazine, released in June, featured a cover story on BioWare’s latest game Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The following issue was supposed to feature The Casting of Frank Stone by Supermassive Games.

In June, GameSpot reported weak Q1 financial results, with a significant drop in sales year-on-year and a net loss of $32.3 million.
