It’s worth mentioning that the winners of The Game Awards are selected mostly by a jury composed of media and influencers (or industry specialists for selected awards). They decide 90% of the results, while only 10% is determined by a popular vote.
This is different from awards, which let the popular vote determine the entirety of the result. Your mileage may vary on which solution better represents the best and brightest in the industry.
Of course, this doesn’t apply to the Player’s Voice Award, which is decided entirely via popular vote.
If you’re wondering, previous winners include Astro Bot (2024), Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023), Elden Ring (2022), It Takes Two (2021), and The Last of Us Part II (2020).
