Today Epic Games revealed the new Marvel-inspired season coming to Fortnite, its popular battle royale game and aspiring Metaverse.

The new season, specifically Chapter 5 Season 4, is titled “Absolute Doom.” As the title implies, it focuses on Doctor Doom (who will soon be portrayed on the silver screen by former Iron Man Robert Downey Jr.) invading the world of the game.

The season starts soon, on August 16, and among the weapons we’ll be able to bring to the fight it’ll include Dual Micro SMGs, Captain America’s Shield, or War Machine’s arsenal.

We also get a list of the skins that will be included in the inevitable season pass:

  • Gwenpool (unlocked right away)
  • War Machine
  • Peelverine
  • Emma Frost
  • Captain Jonesy
  • Mysterio
  • Shuri

Doctor Doom himself will also be available via Battle Pass Quests in September.

Yet, that’s not all of the content owned by Disney revealed today. During the Disney Horizons Live from D23 event hosted on the special Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase island in Fortnite, Epic Games and Disney announced more goodies.

The first is Disney Villains, including Cruella, Maleficent, and Captain Hook (recording courtesy of GamersPrey). They’ll be released this fall.

The second is The Incredibles, including Frozone, Mr. Incredible, and Elastigirl. They’ll also come this fall.

Lastly, we get the announcement of more Star Wars content, focusing on The Mandalorian. This includes Moff Gideon, IG-11, and a Gorgu (baby Yoda) back bling. We know that this will arrive on August 12.

This is the first step following the massive deal between Epic Games and Disney announced back in February and seen as an accelerating factor of Fortnite’s shift toward becoming a full-fledged Metaverse.

Disney is investing a whopping $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic Games and launch an “all-new open, persistent and social universe that will bring Disney stories and experiences to life” linked with Fortnite.

Said persistent universe promises to ” offer a multitude of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, shop, and engage with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.”
