The relatively small city in Kumamoto Prefecture, on the Japanese south-western Kyushu island, partnered with developer Mondrian to create Goshuin Rumble: Tamana.

It’s a competitive action game created in collaboration with the local Rengein Tanjoji Temple. It prompts two teams of 5 players each to collect points by gathering Temple Stamps dropped by defeated opponents, and it’s set on the grounds of the temple itself.

The head priest of the temple himself wrote the calligraphy used for the stamps, and the audio of the sutra featured in the soundtrack.

The project also uses the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism’s 3D city model named Plateau, which was utilized by the same developer to recreate Funai Castle in Oita City.

The goal of the project is to share the local culture with younger generations, promoting e-sports, attracting tourists, and revitalizing the region.

The map also features local products like Tamana Ramen, Strawberries, Tangerines, and Tomatoes.

Below you can check out a trailer and a few screenshots.

If you want to check out the game for yourself, the island code within Fortnite is 0325-3726-4661.

To celebrate the launch, an online eSports tournament will be held on January 24, 2026, associated with the local e-Spa Tamana annual offline eSports event, which will be hosted on January 31.

Japanese organizations and even local governments have been very active in using Fortnite’s growing metaverse to promote local attractions, like Funai Castle, Gunkanjima, Shibuya, and Osaka.
