Usually, FPS developers finish a map before unleashing players into it, but Fortnite is taking a different approach with the Ballistic mode.

Today, Epic Games announced the Test Grounds feature, which will let players test out and provide feedback on unfinished maps, in turn giving the developers all the data they need to refine them before completing them.

As a matter of fact, if the trailer is a good indication, the maps are so unfinished that they’re still in greybox, which means that objects and environments are still untextured grey models.

We also get to see new weapons and gadgets like the Sovereign sniper rifle and the Overdrive gadget, which will temporarily make you more mobile and will speed up your reload and weapon swapping.

You can watch the trailer below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Fortnite Ballistic, it’s a first-person shooter mode for Fortnite currently in early access. You can pretty much think of it as Epic Games’ answer to Valve’s Counter-Strike 2.

If you’re unfamiliar with Fortnite, it started as a Battle Royale game with building elements, and it’s currently available on all platforms besides iOS outside of Europe.

It has been undergoing a radical evolution from a single game to a Metaverse, with several other experiences like Lego Fortnite Odyssey, Fortnite Festival, and more, on top of user-created islands created by players and even institutions.
