Euro Truck Simulator 2 may have been released in 2012, but calling it an “old game” would be absolutely reductive. SCS Software continues to actively update it, and a new patch is available via open beta today.
The new update, numbered 1.51, can be downloaded simply by accessing the Open Beta branch on Steam.
It includes a new title screen to offer better access to essential options and to make navigation with a gamepad and a steering wheel more comfortable.
Four German cities have been overhauled as part of the ongoing rework for the country. These are Bremen, Kassel, Osnabrück, and Magdeburg.
All the intros for the cities with an ownable garage included in the Italia and Beyond the Baltic Sea DLCs have also been reworked, for a total of 41 cities.
Quality of life improvements include a search option to improve ease of navigation among your settings. The settings themselves have also been reorganized and divided into subcategories for better clarity.
Lastly, the ability to change your in-game desktop background directly from the main menu and preview what it’ll look like.
The full patch notes are as follows, with the warning that there may be bugs and instability since it’s a beta.

Euro Truck Simulator is currently available for PC. It’s one of the few games available on Steam that has seen a pretty consistent climb in its peak daily playerbase since its launch in 2012 (according to SteamDB) far outperforming even its “younger brother” American Truck Simulator.
