Euro Truck Simulator 2 Launches Open Beta for Update 1.56

SCS Software released the open beta version of update 1.56 for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

This follows the release of the same update on the sister game American Truck Simulator. In fact, while the core of the updates is similar, there are a few specific differences.

The first new feature showcased in the official post focuses on graphics, and it’s the implementation of Height Blend, a technique that focuses on implementing more realistic and visually appealing transitions between different types of terrains or surfaces.

If you look at the first four screenshots in the gallery below, you can check out a comparison between pre-patch and post-patch visuals.

The HS-Schoch Tuning Pack DLC, the Schmitz Cargobull Trailer Pack DLC, and the Special Transport DLC are getting their own updates, including more customization options, new trailers, and three locomotives to carry.

The rest of the changes are pretty much identical to the American counterpart.

Players will be able to switch the interior zoom function between a button hold and a toggle.

A new iteration of the DLC browser has been implemented, including clear sections like Featured, Bundles, Map, Cargo, Trailer, Accessories, and Paint Jobs.

The profile creation menu has been overhauled, letting you create and select your profiles in a more streamlined and modern way.

A Truck Preference screen has been added between the selection of your headquarters and the opening cutscene, letting you preview trucks and rotate them. They can also be displayed in a random order.

More improvements have been made to the company management UI, including a redesigned seven-day profit graph. A small but nice quality-of-life improvement lets you relocate drivers and their trucks to the same garage slots in one go.

The Garage Manager and Driver Manager are also unlocked from the start of the game. Speaking of the Driver Manager, it has been polished with a clearer layout. Now it even includes an XP bar to better track a driver’s progress.

Here’s the full changelog as of now.
