SCS Software is asking the Euro Truck Simulator 2 community for help testing some new features, including a rather interesting technical innovation.
According to the announcement, a new experimental beta build has been made available on Steam to test a technology called Asynchronous Loading.
The feature aims to improve the loading process, mitigating stutters and making the experience smoother. That being said, it’s a complex feature with far-reaching impact, so the help of the community in testing is required.
Specifically, SCS encourages users who participate to keep an eye out for any weird behavior related to the loading of elements like terrain, models, assets, trucks, trailers, cargoes, weights, physics, and even the economy system.
A big warning is that this beta could affect save files, given its experimental nature, so users are strongly encouraged to create a brand new profile to use with it.
The beta in the dedicated Steam menu is simply called experimental_beta. No password is required.
Since they’re at it, the developers are also testing some of the features planned for update 1.55.
These include the Truck Driving proficiency test in the Driving Academy, a redesigned mail menu, and a new shortcut on the world map that will center it on your truck when you press “F.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Euro Truck Simulator 2, it’s a truck-driving simulator available exclusively for PC. Recently, version 1.54 has been released.
We have already seen plenty of the next DLC, which will be titled Nordic Horizons, and you can check out its landscapes, landmarks, and the city of Oulu, the churches, the lakes of Finland, and more roadside landmarks. Yet, a release date has not been announced just yet.
The nearby (geographically) Scandinavia DLC will also get a relevant and free update to match its quality.
We have recently learned about the rework in the works for the Benelux region, which is one of the many projects currently in the works.
