During Electronic Arts’ quarterly financial conference call, CEO Andrew Wilson talked about the company’s business and plans and shared a few interesting remarks about Apex Legends and the Switch 2.

During the livestreamed presentation, Wilson explained that he sees the development of Apex Legends across three core vectors.

The first is continuing to support the community that plays day in and day out, with “quality of life, anti-cheat, and all of the things that make the core experience great as well as new content for that community.”

According to Wilson, EA continues to try and test and develop more great content for the community and has seen some progress in that but not as much as they would have liked.

Moving on to the second phase, Wilson mentioned that EA believes there will be a time to do a more meaningful update of Apex Legends as a broad game experience, and the teams are already diligently working on that.

The intention is not to drop it on top of the release of the new Battlefield (which was confirmed today to be planned between April 2025 and March 2026), so this is something that would come “post-Batttlefield.”

Then, in the long-term, the expectation is that Apex will be one of these franchises that last 10, 20, 30 years and keep growing, and Wilson mentioned that there may be an even bigger update that could be seen as Apex 2.0.

“Sometime, over that longer time horizon, there will be an even bigger more meaningful update to that broader game experience, an Apex 2.0 if you will. This will not be the final incarnation of Apex.”

Later in the Q&A, Wilson was also asked to comment on the possibilities he sees for the Nintendo Switch 2, and he certainly seemed optimistic.

“Any time a new console comes into the marketplace, that’s a benefit for us and gives us the ability to access and acquire new players. Typically we’ve had franchises perform very well on Nintendo platforms.

Certainly, our expectation is that products like FC, Madden, and others might fight real energy on the platform as they have done in the past. When you think about something like The Sims, MySims: Cozy Bundle, which performed well ahead of our expectations, 50% of all players were new to EA.

That represents a great opportunity for us. Nothing in our models at this junction, but the expectation is that every time a new console comes into the marketplace, it gives us access to new players and new communities, and we have the IP that would benefit from that.”
