Circana (previously known as NPD) published its traditional monthly sales charts related to the US market for May 2045.
As usual, the data was shared by Circana Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella on Bluesky.
First of all, we learn that the PS5 was at the top of sales for the month, both in units and dollars. In terms of software, the charts were topped by FromSoftware’s Elden Ring Nightreign.
That being said, Nightreign is too fresh to challenge the top-selling games for 2025, debuting in 11th place, with Monster Hunter Wilds, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows still at the top.
Incidentally, Oblivion Remastered has overtaken the latest chapter of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, pushing it down to third place.
Elden Ring Nightreign ranked first on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, while Mario Kart 8 topped sales on Switch without even needing the digital component of its sales.
It’s worth mentioning that the Nintendo Switch 2 is not included in today’s statistics since they’re about May, and the new console launched in June.
Total gaming spend in the us in May was $4.1 billion, up 1% year-on-year. If we look at all of 2025 so far, it’s $21.8 billion, down 6% year-on-year.
You can find all the relevant charts below, courtesy of Circana.
The first chart focussed on the sales for the month on all platform. The second is the year-to-date chart for 2025. Then PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC platforms follow.
It’s worth mentioning that these are dollar sales, not unit sales.
