Ever since it was revealed at The Game Awards 2024, fans have been dying to get more information about Elden Ring Nightreign. Today, Bandai Namco and FromSoft showed off a complete overview of what you can expect before the co-op action-adventure game’s release later this month.
Elden Ring Nightreign will begin at the Roundtable Hold, tasking players to choose from eight unique characters, each with their own abilities and powerful Ultimates. You’ll start each session at level 1, with your main objective being to defeat all of the Nightlords before time runs out.
The story revolves around your characters, known as Nightfareres, each of whom has lost their memories. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock fragments of lost memories that offer a look into who your character was before they couldn’t recall their past.
Just like its predecessor, you’ll be able to freeroam the entire Limveld map from the start, allowing you to explore the overworld for weapons, items, and plenty of secrets. There will also be strongholds guarded by soldiers, which house maps and treasure you can collect that will help you along your journey.
While exploring, enemy encounters and random events will occur, resulting in powerful loot drops or even new areas being opened up. In the trailer above, we even see a giant meteor strike that reveals a new location; this is just one of the many dynamic events that will happen throughout your playthroughs.
As the name indicates, nighttime is also a whole new ballgame in Elden Ring Nightreign. When night falls, the map will shrink and a circle will appear on the map, pushing you toward waves of boss battles that can’t be avoided.
Currency-wise, players will use Murk to spend at the Jar Merchant, who is located at the game’s hub world, The Hidden Roundtable. This carries over from previous playthroughs, allowing you to buy things from the Merchant that can be used on your next run.
At the end of day three in Elden Ring Nightreign, you must take on one of the Nightlords, brand new bosses with unique and difficult spins on classic encounters from the original 2022 adventure. There are also eight new classes, six of which FromSoftware revealed:
- Duchess – A thief class that can make her and nearby allies invisible from the enemy’s view.
- Guardian – A warrior class that can lift enemies off their feet, deflect arrows, repel approaching enemies, and deploy a magic circle to save allies.
- Ironeye – is an archer class that can injure and pressure an enemy while disrupting pose and fire a supersonic arrow, piercing multiple enemies and obstacles.
- Raider – A sea-farer class that can counter strikes a blow that cannot be interrupted by enemy attacks; can also summon a colossal gravestone that serves as an attack to dispel enemies and acts as a wall to block projectiles and amplifies the strength of allies through its protective aura.
- Recluse – A witch class that collects the elemental attributes attached to enemies and allies to produce powerful magic; can brand foes with an archaic blood glyph, which grants allies health and magic by attacking them.
- Wylder – A knight class that can throw grappling hooks to pull enemies or swiftly close distances and launch explosive iron spikes that deal damage to any enemy.
A Samurai class known as the Executor is also coming, but there wasn’t in-depth information provided like there was for the other six in the trailer. Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone multiplayer spinoff, meaning you don’t need the other game to play, and it will release on May 30, 2025, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam).
