Dune Awakening Release Date Announced; Benchmark Mode & Character Creator Available Now

Dune: Awakening is officially coming to PC on May 20, 2025, with the base game available for $49.99. Alongside the release date and price, developer Funcom also revealed that players can download the Character Creator and Benchmark Mode via Steam right now.

The Character Creator lets you customize every aspect of your protagonist, just like you would at the start of any new save. You’ll be able to choose your looks, home planet, caste, and mentor, with the final choice determining your starting abilities, all of which can imported into Dune: Awakening at launch.

Benchmark Mode is also the perfect test for PC players to determine how much your rig can handle. The tool runs hardware performance and system compatibility checks by running scenes from the game, including a sequence that shows off the iconic colossal sandworms home to the series.

Anyone who plays the Character Creator and Benchmark Mode will also receive a redeemable code for the exclusive Frameblade knife skin, which can be seen above. Dune: Awakening was originally announced back at Gamescom 2022 as a survival MMO title set on Arrakis, the most dangerous planet in the universe.

Alone or with friends, the task is simple: survive the harsh sands of the desert, collect resources, and build your very own Spice empire. If following is more of your thing, the multiplayer aspect of the game allows you to join a guild, swear allegiance to the Atreides or Harkonnen, and work with other players to secure power in the server-wide Landsraad whose decrees impact every player on the server.

Pre-orders will be available soon. Anyone who purchases early will receive the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, a detailed in-base decoration that houses our favorite desert mouse as he goes about his life. A console launch for Dune: Awakening is also expected in the future, but no date or window has been announced yet.
