Funcom has just released the latest look at its highly anticipated multiplayer survival game adaptation of Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi novel Dune: Awakening. This time around, the developers go into depth exploring the secrets of Arrakis and the best ways to get around it without getting eaten by a sandworm.

As soon as you arrive on Arrakis in Dune: Awakening, your first task is merely to survive the heat. The landscape is dominated by blistering heat, scarcity of water, treacherous quicksand, punishing sandstorms, and the constant threat of enemies.

Sunstroke plays a considerable role in exploration as well, as staying out in the sun too long will end your journey before it can even begin. If you can last, you’re next step is to learn crafting, which leads to the creation of your own stillsuit, which itself will help you fend of dehydration when wondering the world.

After you’ve gotten the basics of crafting, you’ll want to take a break from exploring to make a shelter that will serve as your base of operations. From there, you can create your own vehicles, like a sandbike, buggy, or ornithopter, to help you get across the land much safer and faster.

Traveling faster won’t help much if you don’t know where you’re going, which is why the Cartographer is vital in Dune: Awakening. As you move throughout the land, you can make maps called Sinkcharts, which can be given to your friends or even sold to other players on the Exchange in Arrakeen or Harko Village.

Anyone who is feeling brave enough and wants to make some serious money can map out the Deep Desert, a desolate and dangerous land filled with valuables and secrets. But it isn’t just the treacherous landscape and enemies that make this area deadly, as the ever-changing environment plays a large role in your survival.

Coriolis storms are massive sandstorms that sweep across the planet and change the landscape, covering old resources and revealing new ones. Due to the random nature of these storms, it can be difficult to predict the best way to survive, so always be sure to have your ornithopter nearby for a quick escape.

Dune: Awakening is set to release for PC (Steam) on May 20, 2025, with the base game available for $49.99. For more information on the game, including pre-order bonuses and exclusives, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily.
