Today, third-party developer Reflected Simulations announced a new World War II campaign for DCS World, titled Wolfpack II: Overlord.

DCS World veterans may recognize the name, as this is the sequel to the popular Wolfpack campaign released a few years ago.

This time around, the campaign takes place on the Normandy map between June 6, 1944 (D-Day) and July 6, with 12 historical missions.

The player starts as a flight lead of the 56th Fighter Group “Zemke’s Wolfpack” and is later promoted to lead the 62nd Fighter Squadron, in command of up to 16 P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft.

I mentioned “historical mission” as they are based on extensive research made by Reflected Simulations on period documents, including pilot reports. While the original Wolfpack focused on bomber escorts, the sequel has only one of these and focuses more on sweep and ground attack action.

It’s basically intended as a playable historical documentary, and that’s pretty awesome.

The developer promises several additional features, like a crew chief, unlockable cutscenes, nearly 1,000 custom voice-over lines, period music, period radio news broadcasts, dozens of accurate custom skins, realistic chalkboards and briefing maps, checklists, combat reports, extensive documentation, and more.

The plan is for the campaign to be submitted to Eagle Dynamics sometime in May or perhaps early June, and it’ll then be released after it’s tested.

You can check out a trailer below. If you’re interested in more campaigns by Reflected Simulations, you can take a look at Arctic Thunder on the Kola Map, which was released a few months ago.

If you’re indeed interested in more modern flight, we recently saw plenty of the upcoming Cold War Germany map.

If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play flight simulator focusing on military aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively for PC on Eagle Dynamics’ own store and Steam.

While the sim is free-to-play, it very much requires paid modules to be fully enjoyed, including aircraft, maps, and campaigns like this one.

Recently, Eagle Dynamics unveiled its plans for the implementation of the dynamic campaign and more. We also heard about another map focused on the Marianas during World War II.

The developer also provided a look at more content coming this year and beyond, including an F-15C Eagle and an F-35 Lightning II.
