Today DCS World developer Eagle Dynamics released update 2.9.10.3948, and it’s a big one, with plenty of features and fixes, on top of the implementation of a few new payware modules.
The F-5E Remastered module brings a redone external model and cockpit to update the sleek jet to modern technology standards. It can be purchased for $49.99, but those who already have the original F-5E will be able to upgrade for $9.99 for the next three months and then for $14.99.

Three payware campaigns have also been implemented, including the two halves of Arctic Thunder set on the Kola map, the F-16C version by Reflected Simulations and the F/A-18C version by Baltic Dragon. Each costs $9.99. The third campaign is F-16C Last Out: Weasels over Syria II for $13.99.
Moving on to the update proper, it includes the new visual effects including fog and dust, improved ambient occlusion, contrails that render from further away, and a new setting for volumetric lights.
Several changes have been made to various modules including aircraft and campaigns (on top of the popular Supercarrier), and there’s a healthy dose of fixes too. You can find the full patch notes on the official forums.
If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play military flight simulator focusing on aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively on PC.
Of course, nothing quality is really “free” and fully enjoying the simulator requires the purchase of additional modules, albeit Eagle Dynamics has a pretty solid trial and introductory discount programs, on top of frequent sales.
DCS World is well known among enthusiasts to be quite challenging for those who aren’t familiar with complex flight simulation. Enjoying most of its advanced aircraft requires days or even weeks of study. Of course, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing and many hardcore simmers find it quite rewarding.
