According to a newsletter sent to subscribers, the developer has been working on a Mariana Islands 1944 map based on the “latest map tools and years of historical research” and it’s now almost complete.

While the developers could use some of the elevation mesh based on the modern version of the location,  the vast majority was redone to accommodate historical buildings, airfields, agriculture, roads and rails, ports, and urban areas.

The entire map has been retextured to improve quality and accuracy while still ensuring good performance.

Yet, that is not all, as Eagle Dynamics is also working on an extensive asset pack to make the map more lively, including the SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber, A6M5 Zero, Nakajima B6N Jill torpedo bomber, and D4Y Judy dive bomber.

On the sea front, the package includes the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, Iowa-class battleship, Cleveland-class light cruiser, and Fletcher-class destroyer for the US, and the Shokaku aircraft carrier, Yugumo-class destroyer, Kongo battleship, and Mogami cruiser currently for Japan.

There will also be multiple tanks, amphibious vehicles, artillery, anti-aircraft, guns, and infantry.

More aircraft in the plans include the SB2C Helldiver, TBF Avenger, the D3A Val, and B5N Kate.

Below you can enjoy a few screenshots.

If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play military flight simulator focusing on aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively for PC on Eagle Dynamics’ own store and Steam.

While the base package is free and includes a couple of aircraft, fully enjoying the simulator requires the purchase of additional modules like aircraft and the maps mentioned above, albeit Eagle Dynamics has a solid trial and introductory discount programs, on top of frequent sales.

Just recently we saw a tease about what’s coming in 2025 and beyond (including an F-35 Lightning II and an F-15C Eagle) and a look into Eagle Dynamics’ plans for the future, including the world map and more.
