DCS World Gets F4U-1D Corsair and Update With Free Mariana Islands World War II Map and More

DCS World Corsair

Today, the military flight simulator DCS World got a relevant update on top of the early access release of a famous World War II aircraft.

The new update is numbered 2.9.17.11733 and it introduces a new aircraft, the F-4U-1D corsair, one of the protagonists of the Pacifc theater in World War II.

It’s developed by third-party developer Magnitude 3, and it’s available on the DCS World store for a discounted price of $47.99.

It comes with an Essex-class aircraft carrier (which is actually available for everyone) and the following features.

Since it’s an early access, like basically everything launched for DCS World, more features will be added down the line.

You can see it in action in the trailer and gallery of screenshots below.

Another big addition is the Marianas World War II map provided at no additional cost. It includes several Japanese ground units to target.

Eagle Dynamics mentions that many United States and Imperial Japanese air, ground, and naval units are in development, including the F6F Hellcat .

You can see the map in the gallery below.

Another relevant feature of the new update is an update to the Kola map by Orbx, which is getting new airfields, improved ground textures for summer, and more.

You can see the new textures below.

The update also ushers in the release of two campaigns, P-47D Wolfpack II: Overlord by Reflected Simulations, and F-4E – Northern Defenders ‘Phantoms Rising’ by Flying Cyking.

You can read the full patch notes on the official forums.

If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play flight simulator focusing on military aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively for PC.

While the sim is free-to-play, it pretty much requires paid modules to be fully enjoyed, including aircraft, campaigns, and maps like this one.

Recently, Eagle Dynamics unveiled its plans for the implementation of the dynamic campaign, while the upcoming Mig-29A Fulcrum was just made available for pre-order.

The developer also provided a look at more content coming this year and beyond, including an F-15C Eagle and an F-35 Lightning II.
