The developers explicitly mention that the results of the survey will provide feedback on which features resonate most with players and what kinds of experiences players are seeking in the game.

They also add that the responses will “have a direct impact on the design decisions” for the game, so if you care about the future of Crusader Kings 3, you may want to take five minutes to provide your opinions.

Interestingly, we hear about four possible themes: Trade & Merchants, Feudalism & Crusades, Empires & Laws, and Religion (specifically Christianity).

For each theme, players are asked to specify which mechanics they want the most. You can find a full list below.

 Trade & Merchants

  • Economic diplomacy (embargoes, trade deals)
  • Non-merchant trade (trading as a Feudal ruler)
  • Merchant republics
  • Banking
  • Trade goods
  • Naval trade
  • Buildable infrastructure (markets, ports, trade posts)
  • Non-merchant Republics
  • Landless Merchants gameplay
  • Land trade
  • Production Chains
  • Trade Routes

Feudalism & Crusades

  • Vassal management (marches, principalities, etc)
  • Alliance pacts
  • Feudal contracts and obligations
  • Peace negotiations
  • More focus on playing as a vassal
  • Council
  • Vassal stances (vassal agendas)
  • Temporary buildings during crusades
  • Loyalty system
  • Edicts (e.g. liege decrees that taxes will be increased for the next 10 years)
  • Crusade Situation (more roles and actions)
  • Crusader States
  • Vassal Directives
  • Dread and Tyranny
  • Holy Orders

Empires & Laws

  • Army laws and military reforms
  • Legal reforms and codification
  • Council roles and decision-making powers
  • Religious and cultural freedoms
  • Empire-wide policy implementation
  • Imperial administration and bureaucracy
  • Customizable succession laws
  • Vassal integration and autonomy options

Religion (Christianity)

  • Monastic orders and their roles
  • Church hierarchy and influence
  • Heresy development and suppression
  • Religious councils and synods
  • Religious Casus Belli and warfare
  • Interfaith relations and diplomacy
  • Religious buildings / Great Projects / artifacts
  • Pilgrimages and holy sites

If you’re unfamiliar with Crusader Kings 3, it’s a grand-strategy game with extremely compelling RPG elements, available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

That being said, expansion and updates usually come to consoles much later, as happened with previous DLC.

Recently, it received the Khans of the Steppe expansion, and the next one, All Under Heaven, will bring us to China, Korea, and Japan. Whatever today’s survey inspires will likely come afterward, with Chapter 5.
