Today, Clanfolk released the biggest update with Update 17, giving players the chance to explore the world, expeditions, and dozens of new items and stations to craft.
To start with, the world is opening up (according to patch notes, this happens mid-game at the new Planning Table). This will let players explore over 500 territories, and they can take expeditions to these areas. There are over 100 expeditions to explore these areas, and players can experience a variety of events while on these.
Additionally, players will learn advanced technology that is specific to the rest of the world, like Steelmaking. Without running into it on these expeditions, players will never be able to learn these technologies. Expeditions can also result in new training methods.
To go on Expeditions, players will need to have rations for the traveling party. Different kinds of rations will dictate how far the party can travel. Other features that deal with the map include the following:
- Tailoring
- Brick Making
- Linen Training
- Tanning Training
- Chef Training
- Steelmaking
Clanfolk Update 17 also included new crafting processes that change how the game flows, particularly in the beginning. This is broken down into different stages:
- Weaving Stage
- Basketry Stage
- The Iron Age
- Carpentry
- The Cooperage
- The Planning Table
- The Age of Exploration
- Brick Making
- The Kitchen
- Steel
There are over 70 new recipes for players to craft between the eras. To see what changes came with each of these, check out the full Patch Notes here.
It’s worth noting that the World Map is able to be toggled, and old games will not gain access to it. Because of the new pacing, developer MinMax Games recommends players start a new save.
Clanfolk is currently available in Early Access on PC.
