City Tales – Medieval Era Reveals Starting Companions

City Tales - Medieval Era companions

Irregular Shapes has revealed the starting companions for its city-building sim, City Tales – Medieval Era.

In City Tales – Medieval Era, players are tasked with establishing a city and making it thrive. However, they’re not alone. There are several companions that players will start with, each with their own backstories, questlines, personalities, and motivations.

There are six starting companions (seven if you count the Advisor, who also has his own likes, dislikes, and personality). They are as follows:

Irregular Shapes gave players a more in-depth look at three: The Advisor, Mischa, and Alberic.

The Advisor is who guides the player at the start of City Tales – Medieval Era. He helps players make the correct decisions as they settle, introduces game mechanics, and works like a narrator.

He has grandkids whom he adores, and he loves cleanliness and potato soup. However, those who forget his name or who run around late are distasteful to him (along with slugs).

The Advisor and his family, the noble Baskeroses, has been serving the Duke of Mountalba (the new region the player takes over) for centuries. His past is a bit of a mystery, as he’s told several different stories in the past.

Mischa is the player’s childhood friend. He loves breakfast, walking around in nature, and chopping wood. He hates studying, having responsibilities, being alone, and, surprisingly, dogs after a run-in with one as a child.

He’s optimistic and always cheerful, though he loves getting into mischief. A fun fact about him is that he’s named after a friendly cat one of the game’s writers met, despite having what the developers call “golden retriever energy.”

Last but not least is Alberic, an old war veteran who loves his companions, his beard, and gardening. He also loves being right at every given moment. His dislikes include noisy kids, lazy people, and — besides his companions, wife, and children — other people.

Players can check out the demo for City Tales – Medieval Era on PC via Steam. It’s also available in Early Access, where players can meet some of the companions before the game’s full release on January 29, 2026.
