Today Capcom announced its financial results for the first half of the fiscal year 2024, related to the period between April and September 2024.

According to the press release, net sales were 56,402 million yen (down 24.7% year-on-year), while operating income was 20,726 million yen (down 38.7% year-on-year).

The majority of the revenue came from new releases of existing franchises and catalog games released in previous fiscal years. As a matter of fact, unit sales for catalog games were up year-on-year, from 17.6 million units to 18.95 million units.

Total unit sales of games were down from 22.6 million to 20.02 million.

For the Digital Content business (which includes games) specifically, Capcom’s sales were 39,775 million yen (down 35.1% year-on-year), and operating income was
20,640 million yen (down 40.2% year-on-year).

While sales were down in comparison with the previous year, which included the launch of Street Fighter 6, today’s results are still seen as in line with expectations and solid progress toward achieving the company’s target for the full fiscal year.

Capcom isn’t worried about the drop because they expect contributions from a major new game to come in the second half of the fiscal year. That’s Monster Hunter Wilds, if you’re wondering, which is releasing on February 28, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, just in time to close the fourth quarter with a full month of sales.

Capcom also reports that it has worked on enhancing the brand value of its largest IPs in film and television productions, licensed merchandise, and in the eSports business.

As such, the company has not changed its full-year forecast which remains at 165,000 yen in net sales and 64,000 yen in operating income.

Incidentally, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise continued to sell in the lead-up to the release of Wilds, so the series has now passed 100 million units sold worldwide cumulatively.

If you’d like to compare, you can take a look at the previous financial results published in July 2024.
