Studio Imugi announced Bonaparte, a turn-based history simulation game that lets players rewrite French history at the very start of the French Revolution.
Players take the role of Céline or César Bonaparte, effectively removing Napoleon from history completely. As a fledgling military officer, players are leading a revolution to overthrow a dying monarchy. Politics are rampant as they have to manage a group of ragtag idealists to become solid government officials.
Players will have to make decisions that affect how the revolution resolves. Whether they fight for the people at every turn or create a new monarchy is completely up to them. There are several major historical figures that players will meet, including Maximilien Robespierre and Marquis de Lafayette.
Battle prowess is as important as political drama. The tactical strategy used in fights is mostly about strategically using units to win. Sheer strength is important, but it won’t win battles and certainly won’t win the war.
However, giant Colossi are there to help. These steam-powered mechs are an important part of Bonaparte’s army.
The decisions made will directly influence the battles taken, and sometimes fights will break out as a direct consequence of choices the player makes.
This not only lets players see what happens as a result of their actions, but it adds replayability to the game. Players can choose different options and create different looks for France without getting bored.
Bonaparte will be released on PC in the early months of 2025. Excited fans can view the Bonaparte trailer below:
