BioWare Confirms Next Mass Effect is Still in Development

Today, BioWare celebrated November 7, lovingly known to the Mass Effect fanbase as N7 Day, by providing a slew of important updates on the series.

First and foremost, the developer clarified that, despite the recent layoffs and ongoing issues at EA and BioWare, the next Mass Effect game is still in development. While they didn’t precisely state much about what they are working on, the official blog post by Executive Producer Mike Gamble clarified that they are working exclusively on the next installment: “We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out.”

Alongside work on Mass Effect 5, a brief update on the upcoming Amazon Prime television adaptation. The post confirms that not only will the show not be about Shepard, but that it will also explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy.

Gamble also told fans to keep an eye out for a handful of cosmetic crossovers to celebrate N7 Day. Some of the games included in that are Destiny, Apex Legends, skate, which feature plenty of gear dedicated to the series.

Last but not least, fans were able to spot that there was a hidden message laced into the post, which the Executive Producer teased at the end. According to Reddit user jaimebarillas, BioWare hid concept art for the Krogan Civil War, which you can see below:

When asked if the image was about a past or future event, Gamble simply replied on his X account “future.”, meaning that the Krogan will still have an important place amongst the next tale in the Mass Effect saga.
