Aztecs The Last Sun, a city-builder sim with survival mechanics set during the time of the Aztecs, has released a demo that players can play on Steam.

The demo gives players a chance to lead the city-state of Tenochtitlan and see many of the gameplay mechanics. For example, the demo features quests, story cutscenes, day/night cycles, voiced dialogue between some characters, and a multi-modular main temple.

Of course, Aztecs The Last Sun will feature many features that players of the genre know and love. Residents will have specific needs, and there are resources to trade and technology to improve.

There are three main city-management aspects: economic, military, and religious. The goal of the game is to thrive in all of these areas just like the Aztecs did, and each aspect was made with the idea of being historically accurate and respectful of the Aztecs.

Aztecs The Last Sun brings a unique challenge, as Tenochtitlan is located on an island in Lake Texcoco. Resource management on an island can be tricky, and maintaining relationships with the city-states on the other side of the water is vital.

There’s also a blood vessel mini-game and Blood Zone that has its own visuals and interactions. The Aztec culture is known for its human sacrifices and blood-related worship, which is featured heavily in the game. Players can see a bit about how this works in the Aztecs The Last Sun demo trailer, which can be viewed below:

Aztecs The Last Sun doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s scheduled to be released at some point in 2025 on PC.
