Ubisoft has just released a brand new story trailer for the next iteration of its beloved assassination action RPG franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The video focuses primarily on the two main protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, as the two team together to get revenge and deal out justice.

The story is set in Japan during 1579, a time when the country is on the path to a brutal unification driven by the iron will of daimyo Oda Nobunaga. When this foreign coalition begins to invade the peaceful province of Iga, a young shinobi embarks on a journey to fulfill an impossible promise while a legendary samurai finds a new purpose in confronting the demons of his past.

As you can see in the video below, each character will have their own unique playstyle when being controlled. Naoe is all about speed and agility, lending the usual quick assassinations fans will be used to from earlier games in the series, while Yasuke is closer to a Viking, focusing more on brute strength and power to take down his enemies, which can be a little bit less stealthy but just as effective.

Players will be able to level up each character’s skill trees individually, each of which will contain skills that fit their style. This means Yasuke won’t have the same assassinations as Naoe, as their playstyles are entirely different.

Alongside the story trailer, it was also revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is also now available for pre-order, featuring a variety of different versions:

  • The Digital Deluxe Edition ($89.99)
    • Base game
    • Sekiryu Dual Pack
