Today, Respawn Entertainment showed off a brand new gameplay trailer for the next big update in their hit battle royale shooter Apex Legends. Titled From the Rift, the next expansion to the now free-to-play multiplayer title, which is available today, features plenty of quality-of-life improvements and new gameplay features, including a brand new game mode, character buffs, and new relics and melee abilities.

For the new game mode, players will head back to the original Kings Cayon to experience Launch Royale. This is essentially just vanilla Apex Legends, meaning you’ll have no EVO Armor or Ability Upgrades and will be able to unlock legends and earn Apex Packs by completing challenges just like you would back when the game was released in 2019.

Speaking of vanilla Apex Legends, From the Rift tweaks the original frontline medic a bit. Lifeline is getting an ability that lets her teleport DOC to allies, and deploy an indestructible forcefield that amps up healing efficiency for your squad.

It also wouldn’t really be living up to its name if Apex Legends: From the Rift didn’t have some Rift-based weapons and boosts to enjoy, would it? When playing, you’ll be able to spot cosmic portals that signal Rift Relics, with each of them boasting iconic and overpowered weapons and Boost Kits, which vary based on RNG.

Lastly, a brand new universal melee is coming to the game. Raptor’s Claw is a deadly sharp new melee that both looks cool and deals a bunch of damage, so get ready to sink your teeth into some up close and personal combat.

Apex Legend: From the Rift is available now for free on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (EA App, Epic Game Store & Steam). You can check out the official patch notes here for even more information, including bug fixes coming in the new update.
