NetEase Games has revealed over seven minutes of gameplay for Ananta, its upcoming urban open-world RPG, showing off everything from combat to traversal mechanics to fashion choices.
Ananta, previously known as Project Mugen, takes place in Nova City, where players will take over a special task force as a new Captain. They’ll be in charge of what looks like a cast of quirky characters while they take on missions for organizations around the city.
From the trailer and information on Ananta’s website, it looks like players will rotate between characters during these missions. There are four main characters highlighted online: Captain (the player), Taffy, Richie, and Seymour. An example shown in the video is a mission where the Captain is cornered in the perfect place for Richie to snipe the enemies around him. Players will rotate between the characters in real time to complete it.
That’s not all the characters in the trailer, either. Several others pop up, and considering the four-member team does missions for different organizations, it seems like these characters will be part of them.
Additionally, several of the characters were shown in different clothes, particularly the Captain. There’s a fashion store, giving players the option to customize their crew.
The customization doesn’t stop there — combat also has quite a few options. The gameplay trailer shows the Captain using a plethora of weapons, ranging from a golf club to a tennis racket to his fists. Even Richie is seen with different weapons throughout the trailer, using whatever best suits the situation.
Getting around the city isn’t restricted to walking or vehicles. Players will be able to use something akin to a grappling hook to “fly,” as the Captain puts it.
That’s not all the trailer shows off. There are plenty of different mechanics included, like the importance of social media, arresting people, and more. Fans can check out the Ananta gameplay trailer below and see it all for themselves:
There’s no release date for Ananta yet, but it will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. Players can pre-register on the official website here. There are currently over 10 million players who have pre-registered since it opened late last year.
