Today SCS Software revealed a very extensive look at a rework done to one of the main areas of American Truck Simulator, California.
Specifically, the developers have reworked 10 cities in Southern California including the addition of 3 of them to the economy loop.
These include Bakersfield, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Mojave, Barstow, Indio, Blythe, Los Angeles, San Diego, and El Centro. They have all been given accurate city layouts, industries, and road networks.
Of course, they had to work within the limitations of the game engine, map scale, and realistic trucking routes.
Speaking of the road network, the team reworked coastal highways like US-101, CA-1, and I-5 alongside other relevant routes like CA-58, CA-14, and CA-99, on top of interstates like I-10, I-15, I-40, and I-8.
Rest areas and truck stops have been reworked as well, alongside California’s agriculture inspection stations.
All this reworked content will be implemented in the game with the upcoming update 1.53. You can take a look at many screenshots below.
American Truck Simulator is available exclusively for PC. It has recently been updated to version 1.51 with the addition of quite a few features.
The sim also just received the Arkansas DLC alongside two trucks, the much-awaited Mack Pinnacle and the 5th Generation Freightliner Cascadia, while Lousiana has just been announced and should follow Missouri, which doesn’t have a release date yet.
This is the twin game to SCS Software’s Euro Truck Simulator 2, which uses the same engine and follows the same development track (it’ll receive a rework of Germany in version 1.53) but is obviously set in Europe. Incidentally, both simulators just received a driving academy feature.
A few weeks ago the games were in attendance at IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, which was another showcase of the inevitable ties between simulation and real-world transportation and logistics.
