2XKO Cinematic Nails the Essence of Tag-Team Fighting Games so Hard

2XKO Ekko Ahri

With the early access of its concisely titled tag-team fighting game 2XKO starting tomorrow, Riot Games released the official cinematic, and it rocks.

The cinematic features Ahri and Ekko, which one would identify as a rather random pair, but then makes them work together narratively in an unexpected and even emotional way.

Most developers would have gone with an established pair, but the fact that the team is random is what makes this cinematic work, as it perfectly represents the nature of tag-team fighting games, which often see players pair together characters who aren’t related, simply because of gameplay style or personal preference.

If you want to see what I mean, you can check the video out below. Incidentally, the theme song “Ties That Bind” is performed by Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox.

If you tell me you’re not invested in this Ahri X Ekko pairing by the end, I won’t believe you.

We also learn that we can expect two patches to mark the start of early access. The first comes tomorrow, October 7, and the second arrives on October 9, numbered respectively 1.0.1 and 1.0.1.1.

You can read the patch notes for both on the official website.

2XKO is a free-to-play, tag-team fighting game based on the universe of League of Legends by Riot Games.

It’ll enter early access on PC tomorrow, and it’ll also launch down the line on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

While it’s free-to-play, there are several starter editions and “Mega Bundles” that go on sale tomorrow, including skins and other goodies, if you already feel like investing in the game.

If you want to see more, you can check out gameplay reveals for Jinx and Blitzcrank.
