A team of MMORPG and FPS veterans is currently working on Reaper Actual, an open-world persistent shooter with DNA from PlanetSide and even EverQuest.
The game will put players in a PvPvEvE world in which NPC factions are at war to control extensive islands, and will work with or against them in pursuit of fortune and glory.
The premise is certainly interesting, and the names involved certainly make an MMO veteran like me pay attention.
To know more, we talked with Distinct Possibility Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Matt Higby, whom you may know as Creative Director of PlanetSide 2, albeit his roots go much deeper into EverQuest II, Star Wars: Galaxies, and even the original EverQuest.
He shared quite a bit of interesting details about the persistence that makes Reaper Actual different from superficially similar experiences like extraction shooters and battle royale games, the PvPvEvE aspect, and the world simulation that will keep the game’s factions running.
Without further ado, we leave you with the interview, which you can find in the video below.
As usual, leaving a like and a comment, and subscribing to our growing YouTube channel is extremely helpful.
Reaper Actual will release at some point down the line for PC.
It’ll be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, on top of a stand-alone version on the game’s official site.
It’s worth mentioning that the version on the game’s official site will actually include blockchain elements and NFTs, but luckily, the versions on Steam and the Epic Games Store won’t have any of that. So if that’s not your thing, you can pretty much ignore it as we expect the overwhelming majority of the playerbase to do.
If you want to know more, you can enjoy the original announcement of the game with a gameplay overview.
