Fishing in No Man’s Sky yields different rarities and varieties of fish, ranging from small surface fish to bottom feeders to massive mammals. These alien creatures have some things in common with fish on Earth, but new quirks and looks make each catch feel unique.

Players can fish from the banks or take their Exo-Skiff out on the water to catch deep-water fish. This floating platform can be customized, and it includes a cold storage inventory. This keeps the fish caught in perfect condition to cook with when players head back to shore.

The Aquarius update added a ton of recipes using the fish added to the game. Additionally, the update added a new diving suit for marine exploration.

The fishing log has plenty of quests for catching fish in different environments and weather conditions. There’s also specialty bait players can craft to lure in better fish. Players can also utilize automated fish traps to create an autonomous fish farm.

Players can participate in the Aquarius Expedition for the next six weeks (ending around mid-October). At the end of the quest, players get special customization parts for various aquatic things. This includes an underwater jetpack, posters, fishing equipment, an adorable bobblehead companion, and more.

The Aquarius update comes right after the Worlds Part 1 update, which significantly improved the water in the game. It now reacts to weather patterns and looks better in general.
