Valve announced today a new feature that is coming right away to the Steam Deck.
The new feature, announced on the official website, lets the Steam Deck complete all active downloads in a low-power mode with the display off.
This feature is enabled by default if the Steam Deck is plugged in, and you can manually enable it for when it’s powered by the battery in the Settings > Power menu.
When you’re downloading something, you can press the power button, and you’ll be asked whether you want to continue the download in this new mode.
If you select “Continue,” the new mode will be activated, and then the Steam Deck will automatically go into Sleep mode after the active downloads are finished.

Pressing any button or moving the Steam Deck while downloading with the screen off will turn on the screen and temporarily show the download progress, also giving you a prompt to wake up the PC with the power button.
If you’re on battery power, the Deck will go into sleep mode when it drops under 20% juice, regardless of whether the active downloads are complete.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Steam Deck, it’s a portable PC sold directly by Valve in three models. The LCD 256GB version is priced at $399, the OLED 512GB version is priced at $549, while the OLED 1TB version is priced at $649.
Unlike other PC-based portables, which officially run on Windows, the Steam Deck is powered by Steam’s own Linux-based operating system, SteamOS.
