According to the announcement, the acquisition happened with the cooperation of Xbox and Zenimax, which previously owned the studio founded by Shinji Mikami and decided to close it down back in June.

With the acquisition, Krafton has secured the Hi-Fi Rush IP and will now proceed with incorporating the studio into its structure and hiring its development personnel, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity.

The press release also mentions that the Korean publisher decided to acquire Tango as it respects its craftmanship in game development and its originality in creating new and interesting games.

The company believes that this investment is the right choice for fans around the world who are waiting for Tango’s next game and the continuation of the Hi-Fi Rush IP. As such, Krafton intends to support Tango to expand the Hi-Fi Rush IP and explore more future projects.

We also hear that Microsoft has pledged to “actively support the developers at Tango Gameworks so that they can continue to take on new challenges at Krafton.”

This deal will not impact the availability of existing games by the developer, including Hi-Fi Rush itself, The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, and GhostWire: Tokyo.

Krafton adds that this announcement marks its first major investment in the Japanese gaming market, which is important for the publisher’s global strategy.

It’s defined as an example of Krafton’s goals of supporting creative gameplay and creators in the Japanese and global gaming industry. The company will continue its effort to create compelling gaming experiences.

Hi-Fi Rush was released in 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S to critics’ and fans’ acclaim. It was then ported to PS5 and released on Sony’s platform in March 2024.
