Today Frontier Developments released a new ship in the space sim Elite Dangerous, and it’s a big one, the Pather Clipper MK II.
When I say “new,” it’s perhaps open to a bit of interpretation, as it’s actually the return of a legendary design (as the MK II implies). The Panther Clipper was the largest ship available in Elite 2.
The Panther Clipper MK II, which was revealed a few weeks ago, includes over 50% more cargo capacity compared to the distant second, a unique module slot, and a ship-launched fighter bay.
You can carry over 1,000 tons of cargo while remaining shielded, and even defend yourself thanks to 10 possible hardpoints.
The bridge of this massive ship can accommodate four players working together.
You can see it in the trailer below.
The Panther Clipper MK II can be grabbed via ARX Early Access for 19,020 ARX. A Stellar Edition is available for 38,000 ARX, including additional ship kit pieces and a special paint job.
The Stellar Edition bundle includes:
- Panther Clipper MK II Ship
- High-Capacity Cargo Transport Loadout
- Class 7 FSD (SCO) and MK II Cargo Racks
- Panther Clipper MK II Freighter Gold Paint Job
- Panther Clipper Mk II Merchant Ship Kit
- Panther Clipper MK II Shipyard Unlock
- Panther Clipper MK II Owners Club Decal (only available during ARX early access)
Those who don’t want to partake in the ARX Early Access need not worry (unless they’re in a hurry), as it’ll become available for in-game credits at a later date.
This is the second new ship released this year, following the Gutamaya Corsair.
Today we also got a new update, and you can find the full patch notes on Steam.
Elite Dangerous is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, but the console versions are limited and aren’t getting recent expansions and updates.
The game was originally funded via a successful Kickstarter campaign all the way back in 2012 and has been in operation since 2014. In fact, it has recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary.
