Eagle Dynamics recently released a fairly major update to its military flight simulator DCS World.
The update, numbered 2.9.16.10523, introduces a major new feature, the Quick Action Generator, which was announced a while ago.
It’s a much more powerful successor to the “Create Fast Mission” feature that DCS users have been using for a long time.
It includes the following features:
- Rapid and simple content generation compared to the Mission Editor.
- Capability to construct missions based on all your DCS aircraft and maps with a high degree of mission customization.
- Supports World War II era to modern day.
- Scale missions from just a couple of aircraft to multiple flights and ground force groups.
- Aircraft, ground units, and ships can be sorted into groups based on their historical era.
- Manually select enemy and allied aircraft and set them as targets and supporting flights.
- Option to modify and select aircraft loadouts.
- Ability to change and select aircraft liveries.
- User Interface built upon the F10 map to facilitate unit placements.
- Optimised AI behavior for all difficulty levels.
- Adjust the location and orientation of forces on the QAG map.
- Option to add and remove air, land, and sea targets:
- Configuring up to 4 (four) aircraft in a flight.
- Set distance, altitude, and loadout options.
- Add escort flights for appropriate Missions.
- Add air defenses to protect targets.
- Add or remove wingmen and set their skill level.
- On first launch the generator loads the last map and aircraft used.
- Formations assignments for flights of up to four units, both allied and enemy.
That being said, the Quick Action Generator is far from the only content of the patch, as it comes with a ton of fixes across the core simulator and its modules, including both aircraft and scenery (like the recently released Cold War Germany map)
The recently added Data Transfer Cartridge is also getting a lot of bug fixes of its own.
If you’d like to find out more, you can check out the full patch notes on the official forums.
If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play flight simulator focusing on military aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively for PC.
While the sim is free-to-play, it very much requires paid modules to be fully enjoyed, including aircraft, maps, and campaigns like this one.
Recently, Eagle Dynamics unveiled its plans for the implementation of the dynamic campaign. We also heard about a map focused on the Mariana Islands during World War II, while the upcoming Mig-29A Fulcrum was just made available for pre-order.
The developer also provided a look at more content coming this year and beyond, including an F-15C Eagle and an F-35 Lightning II.
