Today Koei Tecmo announced its financial results for the fiscal quarter of the fiscal year ending in March 2025, related to the period between April and June 2024.

According to the financial documents, sales for the whole company were 17,607 million yen, down 3.8% year-on-year.

Operating profit was 5,723 million yen, down 23.8% year-on-year.

Sales for the Entertainment segment, which includes video games, were 16,581 million yen, down 536 million yen from the previous year.

Operating profit for the Entertainment segment was 5,700 million yen, down 1,628 million yen from the previous year.

Sales in the console sector were mainly from games released before the beginning of the fiscal year, including Rise of the Ronin. There were no major new mobile titles released this quarter, so revenue came mostly from existing ones.

Speaking of mobile games, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator is said to have enjoyed “solid performance.”

Besides the console games already announced (Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake, Fairy Tail 2, and Dynasty Warriors: Origins), we hear that the company has “several” games up to medium-scale scheduled to be released in the second half of the fiscal year (between October 2024 and March 2025).

Koei Tecmo mentioned that information about these games will be revealed gradually.

On top of that, “Many” new games including “several large titles” are in development. The new AAA studio led by Yosuke Hayashi is currently focusing on developing new games.

The company also responded to questions from investors, including one that inquired about the possibility that the development of several games may have been canceled or reviewed in response to the results of the previous years. This was denied.

There were no such events as you pointed out, and there was no significant increase or decrease in the number of pipelines. Many titles are already in development for the next few years.

The pipeline will be disclosed as usual in this year. It was also disclosed on IR after the title announcement. In fiscal 2024, titles were concentrated in the second half of the year.

Koei Tecmo’s executives also mentioned that collaborations with other companies will continue, albeit no titles were disclosed.

We then hear that the publisher will increase the number of large games slowly. The plan is to expand development capabilities over the medium to long term to ensure that large-scale titles are released consistently. That being said, low-risk titles (medium-sized ones) will also continue to be developed.

Lastly, Koei Tecmo mentioned that its large-scale games, including AAA titles, will belong to different genres and won’t just be open-world titles.

One of our strengths is that we can develop a wide variety of game genres. Taking advantage of this, we will work on developing large-scale titles in various genres. We believe that the challenge of an open world is important for medium- to long-term growth.

All of large-scale titles, including the AAA Class, are not just going to be open-world titles. We aim for a balanced growth.
