A few days ago, Bushiroad teased a game dedicated to the popular manga and anime Natsume’s Book of Friends, and today it has been fully unveiled.
The game, titled Natsume Yujin-cho: Hadzuki no Ki, which translates into Natsume’s Book of Friend: Tale of August, will be released for PC and Nintendo Switch on June 5, 2025.
Looking at the Steam page, it appear that no English localization is planned (only Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese are listed), but you never know, as a localization publisher may be found down the road.
The Nintendo Switch version is even getting a physical edition in Japan, on top of a limited edition.
Below you can check out a trailer with the first gameplay and a series of screenshots.
The game tells an original story in which the players take on the role of Takashi Natsume, accompanied by the inseparable Nyanko-sensei. It’ll let us freely explore the world of the anime during summer vacation (specifically August, hence the title).
You’ll be able to meet your friends, help your family, interact with the youkai, and of course, you shouldn’t forget to do your summer homework. You have one month, so it’s up to you how you’ll spend your summer vacation and with whom.
Incidentally, the backgrounds of the game were designed by Ishigaki Production, which did the same for the anime, so you can expect plenty of authenticity.
It’ll also be a nostalgic journey, as there will be moments of reminiscing the events of the first seven seasons of the anime.
Incidentally, the game is developed by Toydium, which already launched Gift under Bushiroad’s umbrella, receiving “very positive” reviews on Steam.
Incidentally, the publisher recently announced Virtual Girl @ World’s End by Osamu Nobusawa, art director and character designer of the popular idol franchise BanG Dream! Girls Band Party.
