Today, it was revealed that Player First Games, the developer behind the highly successful free-to-play crossover fighting game MultiVersus, has been acquired by publisher Warner Bros. Games.
The press release breaks down some information about the partnership.
When commenting on the acquisition, Warner Bros. Games. President David Haddad had the following to say:
“We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games adds to our extensive development capabilities.”
“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” Huynh said. “We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”
Since its debut in early access back in July 2022, MultiVersus has continued to grow exponentially, reviewing favorably with both fans and critics, even receiving awards for best fighting game at both The Game Awards 2022 and the 26th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in 2023. The roster has also expanded, adding a variety of stars, including Rick Sanchez, LeBron James, and Samurai Jack to go alongside its already impressive roster of characters.
Even wihtout Player First Games, Warner Bros. Games already has an impressive portfolio of titles under their belt. They are responsible for the publishing of development studios TT Games, Rocksteady Studios, NetherRealm Studios, Monolith Productions, WB Games Boston, Avalanche Software, and WB Games Montréal, just to name a few.
Some of the most notable games they are responsible for publishing include the Batman: Arkham trilogy, Hogwarts Legacy, and all of the Lego spinoff titles (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman).
MultiVersus is currently available now as a free download for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
