Today Cloud Imperium Games, developer of Star Citizen, revealed the traditional Luminalia seasonal event that will happen in and around the growing space game.
In the game’s rich lore, Luminalia is a festivity celebrated by humanity and the Banu aliens on December 22 with gift exchanges, glowing decorations, and gatherings of family and friends.
If you’re wondering about the year 2954, that’s the current in-lore date, since Star Citizen’s time progresses with our own, just 930 years in the future.
The centerpiece of the celebration is the traditional Advent Calendar players will be able to enjoy starting on December 12 for 11 days. Each day at 16:00 UTC players will be able to open a slot and find a themed surprise, some of which will be in-game items.
Special cargo delivery missions will appear in the game, while presents will spawn randomly in the universe, allowing players who find them to exchange them for credits.
Discounted Starter Packs will also be made available to give the gift of Star Citizen to friends and family. Discounts are between 10% and 25% depending on the included ship, with the most affordable option (the ol’ dear RSI Aurora MR) starting at $49.41.
Festive gear (clothing and armor) is also on sale, alongside slightly discounted (10%) yearly subscriptions at both the Centurion and Imperator levels.
If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a crowdfunded project directed by Chris Roberts, whom you may know for creating the Wing Commander series. It’s a multiplayer sandbox space simulator exclusive for PC.
The crowdfunding total has just passed $765 million ($765,052,923 at the moment of this writing) and the game counts 5,459,824 registered users. Of course, many of them aren’t paying customers, as they register accounts to enjoy Free Fly Events like the one that ended last week.
A few weeks ago, we also got to see plenty of features and tech coming to the game, on top of the overall vision for version 1.0, which will be the full release of the game, albeit it doesn’t yet have a date.
We already know that Alpha 4.0, which will include the new system Pyro and will basically double the game’s universe’s real estate, should be coming before the end of the year.
The game will also have a single-player campaign titled Squadron 42, starring an exceptional cast of famous actors including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more. Recently we saw plenty of gameplay and learned that it’ll release in 2026.
Since the project has been in development for over a decade, you can also see how Squadron 42 evolved since its first reveals.
