You may remember an up-and-coming open-world RPG published by Netease code-named “Project Mugen.” Now it has a new name, and it’s Ananta.
The renaming was announced this morning by publisher Netease and developer Naked Rain, alongside a new teaser trailer showing off one of the game’s inevitable cute waifus.
The game doesn’t yet have a release date, but it’s coming for PS5, PC, iOS, Android, “and more.”
Pre-registrations are already open on the official website.
While we wait for further information, you can check out the trailer below.
If the name “Project Mugen” rings a bell, but got lost among your memories, it was announced in 2022 around Tokyo Game Show, where Netease performed a promotional stint with media interviews and all that jazz.
After that, the developers at Naked Rain went back to work and stayed quiet pretty much until now.
What we saw a year ago was a pretty promising open-world RPG set in extensive Cyberpunk-ish cities with plenty of interesting gameplay and a variety of traversal mechanics. It’ll be certainly interesting to see what the developers have cooked up in the year and change they have been quiet.
Of course, this is a challenging market, pretty much dominated by HoYoverse’s behemoths like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. We’ll have to wait and see if Netease and its new IP Ananta will have the oomph required to make a dent in that dominance.
In the meanwhile, the publisher is very much active working on Marvel Rivals, Rusty Rabbit, and more, while we’re still waiting to hear something specific from Nagoshi Studio.
